Bettel and his mane-chan reached out to me mid March to help work on this project!
Initially we didn't have too much to work with other than a general idea and had some sketches go back and forth on deciding how we wanted to visualize an otherwise abstract concept. The idea that I went with is actually pulled a bit from the Disneyland's Haunted Mansion with the elevator that takes guests below and it slowly shows paintings of subjects in vicarious positions. I wanted to do something similar to that but in reverse.
The long painting version of this was the original concept of the art scrolling down and then you see the puddle where the car battery is, then it suddenly flips on it's head to show that everything that is happening is actually orchestrated behind the scenes. In the original pose with Bettel stretching his arms out, initially his legs were going to be wide apart just like in the first one, but then we decided to adjust it to him crossing his legs to make the change in pose more apparent.
